Reflexology

Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a 'hands on' technique applied to the feet, hands and ears which has a history dating back thousands of years. Manipulation of specific points may have profound impacts on other areas of the body as well as the spirit.

What Can Reflexology Treat?

Reflexology is known to promote deep feelings of relaxation and therefore may combat stress and a range of aches and pains. The action of massage used in reflexolgy treatment may help to promote circulation of blood flow and therefore oxgen.  A recent study on women suffering PMT showed that reflexology reduces stress levels in 46% of the sample, compared to just 16% in a group relying on hormone therapy alone.

How Does it work?

Reflexology divides the hands, feet and ears into five longitudinal zones and three lateral zones, each corresponding to a different portion of the body as a whole. Manipulation of specific zones may release restricted energy flow, improve circulation and promote neurological stimulation of the affected area. Endorphins may be released into the blood stream, which may promote a profound sense of well-being and ease physical pain.

Is it Safe?

The treatment itself is considered safe, although as with all therapies certain contra-indications can exist. Therefore reflexology may not be suitable for all patients, Rosemary will, of course, advise you if this is the case and suggest other treatments.
